NutriLens 2

NutriLens 2.0 is now out on the Play Store. Completely rebuilt from the ground up and much easier to use this update includes:

• New friendlier design
• No AR nonsense, just take a photo of food packaging or pick from one from your gallery
• No choosing from the different table/lozenge nutritional info types, NutriLens now knows which is which
• Crop photos after taking them
• Edit the macro nutrient amounts if Nutrilens can’t read them
• Dark mode support
• Rewritten in Kotlin (previous versions were Java)

Is Google Ditching Gears?

Google Gears has been conspicuous by its absence in two places recently. The Droid no longer has Google Gears geolocation built into its browser. Instead it uses HTML5. In the recent Chrome OS announcement it was also HTML5 all the way. I think perhaps Google was using Gears as a stop gap until HTML5 came on stream. Now its supported by the Firefox 3.5, iPhone 3.x, Palm Pre and Android 2.0 there’s not much reason to keep Gears going. This is probably a Good Thing as now developers can being to concentrate on using one geolocation implementation.

Back from holiday

I’ve been away on holiday for the last two weeks, hence the lack of posts here. My girlfriend and I went to California and had a great time. Naturally I took my Hero with me. It has a really useful option in the “hold the power button down menu” to switch off the mobile data connection. I found it incredibly useful as it prevented extortionate data charges whilst still receiving calls and letting me connect to any Wifi hotspots I came across. This allowed me to stay in the loop with all the goings on in the mobile world and a lot has happened, especially with Android.
The first thing on my to do list is installing an Android 1.6 ROM on my G1 and testing the Reader widgets on it.
I have received a few suggestions for features in addition to my own ideas so watch this space.
Also Reader Widget Small passed the 5000 download mark last week. Thanks to everyone who has downloaded, rated and provided feedback on it.

New WordPress Theme

As you may have noticed I have changed the WordPress theme of the blog. I was getting bored of the default one. This new one is called StudioPress.
